Why The Hunger Games Movie is better than the Twillight Movie

The Hunger Games Movie is better than the Twilight Movie for many reasons, the main one being the acting. The acting in The Hunger Games is real acting. The actors didn’t seem like they were just reading lines and being cheesy. They made you believe that the Hunger Games was real. In Twilight the actors were bland and bad. They acted corny. When I saw the movie I was like really Kirsten Stewart? (I just don’t understand why every director is putting her in their movies, but that is a discussion for a different day). Words cannot describe how they acting in Twilight differ from all other successful movies, everybody who is not a giddy teenage girl will understand. Next, The Hunger Games contains no vampires. Praise the Lord! I don’t know about you, but I was getting quite annoyed seeing vampires everywhere, in movies, in television shows, it was getting old. Finally The Hunger Games contains a strong female heroine. Katniss is a strong hunter who is strong yet emotional too. She cares about others deeply, that she sacrifices her life for her sisters. Also Katniss stays true to herself throughout the film even though everybody is trying to change her into something she is not for the sake of getting people to like her. This is something that a lot of young adults face today. Katniss is a more relatable character than Bella because she a great example of teen angst and a heroine. I would definitely recommend that everybody go see The Hunger Games even if you have not read the book (because I didn’t either), and decide what film and storyline you find more appealing.

I chose to write a text response about this carton shown on page 326 in our book. The author of this cartoon is Gary Varvel and this cartoon first appeared on unionleader.com in May 2006. I think that the point the artist is trying to make about schools today is very clear. Varvel’s argument is that schools are more focused on athletics than academics. He supports this argument by first showing the joy on the teachers face when he is talking about all the school’s sport facilities. Then on the other side of the cartoon he shows the not joyous faces of the concerned parents asking about why their child is failing. The cartoon then wraps up with the puzzled face of the teacher who has nothing to add about the child educational progress. The carton expresses that schools are spending too much time and resources focusing on athletic programs rather than spending the resources and time on educating the students like they are supposed to be doing. This is happening at schools all around the nation. Instead of purchasing the newest books and learning aids the schools spend money on updating the football field and expanding their gymnasium. With the main emphasis of most schools being sports it puts into the student’s minds that education is not as important as being a good athlete. Therefore students will not focus hard during school and will not do their homework or study because they are busy at practice or busy completing in a game. This carton makes you think back to your high school experience. What were you most concerned about: getting a good grade or making the team?

Why Students Should Participate in the Disney College Program

The Disney College Program is an internship program operated and located at the Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland Resort. The internship is for college students of all majors, age 18 and over. Participants will spend a semester long paid internship working at the Walt Disney World Resort or the Disneyland Resort. Students also have the opportunity to earn college credit by taking classes. There are three main parts of the Disney College Program: living, learning, and earning. The living experience of the program is that participants will stay the duration of their internship at company sponsored housing near the resort. The learning experience of the program is that participants can earn college credit by taking Disney sponsored courses and seminars. The earning experience consists of the students working at the Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland. This amazing opportunity is one that will follow the participant throughout their life. The Disney College Program is a resume enhancing program that all future employers will see and may even help the student get a job after college. The price for participating in the program is very fare. There is a program fee of $100, a housing fee of $200, and a processing fee of $4.50. The classes the student can participate in for college credit cost no money. The students only have to purchase materials like books for the classes. I think that this seems like a magnificence opportunity for any college student and I am proud to say that I have been accepted to participant in the fall 2012 program. I am very excited for this opportunity and I look forward to being part of such a magical company. So for all those college students like me who don’t really know what they want to do after college and want to travel and experience new exciting things the Disney College Program is for you!
