Why You Should Shop Online

Online shopping is very popular in today’s society. However there are many people out there who have not caught on to why online is so helpful. To help persuade these people to shop online here are some major reasons why they should. First of all when you shopping online you don’t have to drive anywhere, in fact you don’t even have to leave your house, this means that you don’t have to use expensive gas to drive from store to store looking for what you need. Secondly you can always find the best deals and you can also find items that aren’t carried in-store. Online shopping makes comparison shopping easy. You can compared products and pricing in just a click. Another perk of online shopping is the internet never closes. So therefore you can shop any day at any time. Also you don’t have to wait in line when making online purchases like you would if you were in-store shopping. From my own experience if there is a long line at a store I will most likely not want to wait so therefore I will not buy what I need or want. Another reason why I love online shopping is that you can shop at any store worldwide. When you shop online you can browse not only stores in your city but stores that are not located in your state and even your country. There are also a lot of online merchants that do not have physical stores. When shopping online you can discover so many new merchants selling things that you didn’t even know you wanted! Lastly when you shop online your purchases come directly to you. So therefore you don’t have to carry heavy and bulky bags around that you do when you shop at a mall. I think online shopping is the best way to buy items. In fact I do it almost every day……

Why The Hunger Games Movie is better than the Twillight Movie

The Hunger Games Movie is better than the Twilight Movie for many reasons, the main one being the acting. The acting in The Hunger Games is real acting. The actors didn’t seem like they were just reading lines and being cheesy. They made you believe that the Hunger Games was real. In Twilight the actors were bland and bad. They acted corny. When I saw the movie I was like really Kirsten Stewart? (I just don’t understand why every director is putting her in their movies, but that is a discussion for a different day). Words cannot describe how they acting in Twilight differ from all other successful movies, everybody who is not a giddy teenage girl will understand. Next, The Hunger Games contains no vampires. Praise the Lord! I don’t know about you, but I was getting quite annoyed seeing vampires everywhere, in movies, in television shows, it was getting old. Finally The Hunger Games contains a strong female heroine. Katniss is a strong hunter who is strong yet emotional too. She cares about others deeply, that she sacrifices her life for her sisters. Also Katniss stays true to herself throughout the film even though everybody is trying to change her into something she is not for the sake of getting people to like her. This is something that a lot of young adults face today. Katniss is a more relatable character than Bella because she a great example of teen angst and a heroine. I would definitely recommend that everybody go see The Hunger Games even if you have not read the book (because I didn’t either), and decide what film and storyline you find more appealing.

I chose to write a text response about this carton shown on page 326 in our book. The author of this cartoon is Gary Varvel and this cartoon first appeared on unionleader.com in May 2006. I think that the point the artist is trying to make about schools today is very clear. Varvel’s argument is that schools are more focused on athletics than academics. He supports this argument by first showing the joy on the teachers face when he is talking about all the school’s sport facilities. Then on the other side of the cartoon he shows the not joyous faces of the concerned parents asking about why their child is failing. The cartoon then wraps up with the puzzled face of the teacher who has nothing to add about the child educational progress. The carton expresses that schools are spending too much time and resources focusing on athletic programs rather than spending the resources and time on educating the students like they are supposed to be doing. This is happening at schools all around the nation. Instead of purchasing the newest books and learning aids the schools spend money on updating the football field and expanding their gymnasium. With the main emphasis of most schools being sports it puts into the student’s minds that education is not as important as being a good athlete. Therefore students will not focus hard during school and will not do their homework or study because they are busy at practice or busy completing in a game. This carton makes you think back to your high school experience. What were you most concerned about: getting a good grade or making the team?

Why Students Should Participate in the Disney College Program

The Disney College Program is an internship program operated and located at the Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland Resort. The internship is for college students of all majors, age 18 and over. Participants will spend a semester long paid internship working at the Walt Disney World Resort or the Disneyland Resort. Students also have the opportunity to earn college credit by taking classes. There are three main parts of the Disney College Program: living, learning, and earning. The living experience of the program is that participants will stay the duration of their internship at company sponsored housing near the resort. The learning experience of the program is that participants can earn college credit by taking Disney sponsored courses and seminars. The earning experience consists of the students working at the Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland. This amazing opportunity is one that will follow the participant throughout their life. The Disney College Program is a resume enhancing program that all future employers will see and may even help the student get a job after college. The price for participating in the program is very fare. There is a program fee of $100, a housing fee of $200, and a processing fee of $4.50. The classes the student can participate in for college credit cost no money. The students only have to purchase materials like books for the classes. I think that this seems like a magnificence opportunity for any college student and I am proud to say that I have been accepted to participant in the fall 2012 program. I am very excited for this opportunity and I look forward to being part of such a magical company. So for all those college students like me who don’t really know what they want to do after college and want to travel and experience new exciting things the Disney College Program is for you!

Response to: How Hip-Hop Lost Its Way and Betrayed Its Fans

Brent Staples the author of the article, “How Hip-Hop Music Lost Its Way and Betrayed It Fans”, did a great job stating his argument. It is crystal clear and if anyone was to read this article they would definitely know what he is arguing. He offered solid information and facts that work very well with his argument. The background information that he dug up on the rapper 50 Cent was genius. It was a good move for him to make because mostly likely readers will have heard of 50 Cent or listened to his songs but they might not have known about his violent past, I know I sure didn’t. I found it very interesting the information he stated about the Hot 97 shootings. I liked the way he added a horrific true life story to back up his points about rappers being related to violence. Another part of his argument that I liked was the reference he made to the lyrics of the songs and the album covers of Hip-Hop music. They all involve violence and promote it in a way that little children who look up to these men and want to become just like them. So therefore these children start getting involved in violence and using foul behavior. This article definitely deserved to be in The New York Times and it makes me really think about the background meaning of the music and lyrics I am listening to.

Why Is Everybody Krazy About The Kardashians and Other Reality Shows?

Reality TV is hard to avoid even if you don’t watch it. Recently every day I look at the cover of a magazine or turn on the TV all I see and hear about is the bachelor or the Kardashians and other talentless people that are associated with reality TV. One can’t help but ask why? Why watch these shows? And why do the media think we like to watch these shows? I did some research and found out that the message these programs want to send to the public is that ordinary people can become so important that millions will watch them. And the special excitement that the creators and producers send to the audience is the perhaps the next time the new celebrity will be them. Reality TV allows Americans to fantasize about gaining status. They will think that maybe I will become famous because my dad is was a lawyer for a murder or maybe cause my mom knows a famous person. Or even maybe they will be able to win a million dollars on a game show or marry the bachelor. The fact is that most of times nay ninety-eight percent of the time their dreams get crushed or will never happen. I think I speak for a good part of the nation when I say enough with the game shows and programs where they follow around wealthy families where they complain about paparazzi and how they don’t know whether to vacation in Europe or the Caribbean. If anything all these shows are doing is embedding the idea in the public’s mind that they need to be rich and flashy and not ordinary and happy. So therefore they need to bring back the comedies that leave you feeling warm and happy inside and ditch the ones that leave you cold and wishing you were someone else.

Response to "On Facebook, Biggest Threat to Your Private Data May Be You."

My parents and elders have always told me, “Be careful of what you display on the internet about yourself because it will always stay with you forever.” I take that into consideration every time I post something online. Facebook has its good and bad elements and I believe that it depends on the user whether they have a positive or negative experience with the site. Facebook is a great way to connect with friends. I have seen that first hand with my mother and her reconnection with her high school friends. Everybody, as a Facebook user, has the ability to control their privacy. And as a Facebook user myself, I know this first hand. When I first created my Facebook account I had the option to choose what I wanted to display about myself including my full name, my age, the city I live in, my interests, and my political and religious beliefs. So therefore everyone can choose what they want the public to know about them. Some people choose to display everything about them including posting about where they are, what they are doing, and how they feel. Those kinds of people are the ones that don’t protect themselves and keep their data private. As the article states, “you are your own front line of defense in maintaining your privacy.” Yes, Facebook, like all websites has their flaws but this article does a good job in showing people that they need to be in control of what they put out in the World Wide Web.
